VLC Media Player (formerly known as VideoLAN Client) is a free and open source media player developed by the VideoLAN project. The design concept was to create a portable, cross-platform solution that could be used on both desktop and mobile operating systems. VLC was originally focused on video playback, but over the years it has evolved into a powerful multimedia player that supports a wide range of audio and video formats.
As with a free browser, the quality of a free player doesn't warrant commercial distribution. Of the many free and open-source media players, VLC Player is perhaps the most popular and well-known, and rightfully so.
High-quality playback: Support for multiple audio and video formats, its lightweight design, and the lack of a powerful operating system and proper playback settings are the reasons this player is so popular.
