OSFMount allows you to mount local DD image files (bit-for-bit copies of disk partitions) in Windows. You can then analyze the disk image file with PassMark OSForensics using the mounted drive letter. By default, the image file is mounted read-only, so no changes can be made to the original image file. OSFMount supports RAM disks, which are basically disks mounted in RAM. This generally offers a big speed advantage over using a hard disk. It is therefore useful for applications that require high-speed disk access, such as database applications, games (e.g. game cache files), and browsers (cache files). A second advantage is security, since the contents of the disk are not stored on the physical hard disk (but in RAM) and are not persistent when the system is shut down. OSFMount supports mounting CD images, which is useful when a particular CD is used frequently and access speed is important.
